Books and Magazines in English

To buy fictions in English, visit the 3rd floor of the NK department store or The English Bookshop in Gamla Stan.

Akademibokhandeln's store at Mäster Samuelsgatan 32 sells some books and magazines in English. The English Shop stocks some books from England.

Want to learn French, Spanish, or other foreign languages? Visit Studium Bookshop (Karlavägen 4) for textbooks in English.

For magazines in English, go to the main concourse of Stockholm Central Station, where Pressbyrån stocks a wide variety of magazines in English.

For travel guidebooks such as Lonely Planet, The Rough Guide, Time Out City Guide, and Wallpaper* City Guide, visit either Akademibokhandeln's store at Mäster Samuelsgatan 32 or Kartbutiken (Mäster Samuelsgatan 54), both of which have an extensive stock.

For comic books from around the world, visit Staffars Serier at Bellmansgatan 26A (nearest metro station: Mariatorget (red line)) or Comics Heaven in Gamla Stan.

For books on art and design, visit Konst-ig, whose website is both in English and Swedish.

If you're cost-conscious and not in a hurry, ordering books at Amazon.co.uk costs less than buying ones at the above bookstores. And delivery time is about a week.

Stockholm is the only large city in Europe that I know of without a weekly English magazine of some sort. Even places like Tallin have a "What's On in Tallin" type of weekly. And don't even mention The Local. It doesn't count.
