Seeing a doctor

For an overview of the health care system in Sweden, see "Healthcare in Sweden" (Your Living City, 12 April 2013) or "How does the Swedish healthcare system work?" (The Local, 22 August 2008).

To find out the list of clinics in your neighborhood, visit the website of Vårdguiden (in Swedish, unfortunately. Its English version website does not have a search function) and do the following:

1. Click "HITTA VÅRD OCH OMSORG" on the top red bar.

2. Click "Vårdcentral".

3. Enter your address for "Var?"

4. Click Sök.

Most clinics don't allow you to see a doctor without booking an appointment by phone. But some clinics (such as Hammarby Sjöstads Husläkare) run "drop in-mottagning" for an hour or so in the morning during which you can just show up to see a doctor.

From my personal experiences, I would recommend the following clinics (the doctors are friendly and speak English).

Hammarby Sjöstads Husläkare (nearest station: Luma)

Doktor Kom hem (nearest station: Kristineberg)

Kvartersakuten Surbrunn (nearest station: Odenplan)
